Marc Anthony being asked for more child support

Singer-songwriter Marc Anthony may be facing a child support modification suit from his first ex-wife, a former Miss Universe from Puerto Rico who now lives in California. The mother wants her existing child support payment of $13,000 for their two sons to be increased to $113,000.

The former couple married in 2000 in Las Vegas but separated in 2003 and divorced the following year. The mother claims that the singer is not giving her enough child support to care for the former couple’s two children, one of whom has special needs. She also says that the singer played the poverty card when they were getting divorced by saying that he had to sell a private island he owned and fire staff due to alleged money problems. However, she says that these assertions were lies because he purchased his next wife, actress Jennifer Lopez, a $4 million ring within a week after the divorce was finalized.

The children’s mother says that the lack of adequate support has caused her to sell the home where she and the children live, forcing them to move into “a hovel.” She claims that he continues to live a lavish lifestyle and pays Lopez “a ton of child support.” Meanwhile, she says that Anthony goes weeks and even months without seeing their two children. The mother acknowledges that he does buy the children lavish gifts, but she says their apartment is too small for them to have enough space to play with them.

A parent who believes that the amount of child support is inadequate may want to consult with an attorney who has experience in family law matters. The attorney may be able to determine whether seeking a modification order would be appropriate.
