Schwarzenegger faces high-asset divorce

Divorce is a difficult time for many people. In some cases, there might be a hope for renewing a marriage, but when it can’t be saved, you may have to face facts. Some divorces can become expensive, especially if you have lots of assets. The ex-California governor, Mr. Universe, actor, and Mr. Olympia, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is going through a tough time; his wife filed for divorce in 2011 after 25 years of marriage due to an affair her husband had with their housekeeper. According to the source, he fathered a child with the housekeeper.

Right now, the divorce hasn’t been finalized, but it’s believed that Schwarzenegger is worth at least $400 million. In California, the law typically demands that divorces split assets 50/50, which would result in his soon to be ex-wife Maria getting half of that fortune in the high-asset divorce. However, Maria, the late President Kennedy’s niece, is also worth a substantial amount of money due to inheritances and from her own career.

In this case, the two never signed a prenuptial agreement, according to the news. That means that neither party is protected against the other during the divorce, and that could lead to some incredible divorce payouts.

If you have many assets that will be part of your pending marriage or divorce, you may want to speak with an attorney. You want to make sure you get what you’re entitled to in a divorce, but you also want to be sure that you don’t give away too much. Speaking with an attorney may help you determine what rights you have and what you can expect.
