Child support issues can begin when a couple separates and can continue until the child reaches the age of majority or the child support is paid in full according to the order. Child support is a serious issue in California, but the resolution of a child support conflict can be lengthy for some.
Reality personality from Real Housewives of Atlanta, Sheree Whitfield, has experienced the potential legal challenges that can come from a child support conflict. Her child support conflict was finalized, in a court outside of California, after a lengthy conflict with her ex-husband. Sheree Whitfield was married to former NFL player Bob Whitfield in 2000 and the couple has two children. The couple divorced in 2007.
It was reported that her ex-husband had not paid his court-mandated child support for the past four years. Generally, child support is required to be paid on a monthly basis and Sheree Whitfield’s ex-husband reportedly failed to make his child support payments for 38 consecutive months.
The court ordered child support required her ex-husband to pay $2,142 per month for their minor children. During the lengthy child support conflict, her ex-husband claimed he did not have enough money to make the required child support payments. It is noted the former NFL player signed a $30 million contract in 2000 to play for the Atlanta Falcons for six years.
The finalization of the child support conflict ended with a court order for the former NFL player to make a $75,000 payment to Sheree Whitfield for the overdue child support and continue to make court ordered child support payments. The court order requires the $75,000 payment to be made by Nov. 11, 2012.
